2016 Adelaide Festival of Ideas dedicated to Phillip Adams

The Adelaide Festival of Ideas Inc. (AFoI) is proud to announce Australia’s Living Treasure, Phillip Adams, AO, FAHA, FRSA as it’s Festival Dedicatee, a tradition that recognises the significant contribution of individuals to Australian public life and thought leadership.

AFoI founder and board Chairman, Greg Mackie says that Phillip Adams has been a true friend and constant presence for the Adelaide Festival of Ideas and it is only fitting that we celebrate his incalculable contribution to Australia’s cultural life at this year’s event.

Usually more comfortable asking the questions, Adams will have the tables turned and be the focus of our opening night special event, “What a Magician Taught me about Politics” in Bonython Hall, 7.30pm Friday 21 October, before appearing in conversation the following afternoon with our international guest Erin Brockovich.

Delivering the dedication to Phillip Adams at the opening night special event will be the Honourable Barry Jones AC, an Australian polymath, writer, lawyer, social activist, quiz champion and former politician and federal minister.

Philip Adams said, “A festival of ideals as well as ideas, the AFoI has had a major impact on the political, social, environmental and cultural debates of this country. I’m proud to have been associated with it from the beginning – and deeply honoured by this year’s dedication.”

Phillip Adams joins the prestigious list of past dedicatees for AFoI which have included Lowitja O’Donoghue, AC, CBE, DSG; Paul Davies, AM; Hugh Stretton AC, and Barbara Hardy AO.

“We are excited to unveil our full program in mid September, we have had a groundswell of support from both long-time and new partners, sponsors, amazing speakers and outstanding thought leaders which once again demonstrates the value of the Adelaide Festival of Ideas to South Australia,” continued Greg Mackie.

“Following this and the recent announcement of Erin Brockovich In Conversation, we are delighted to announce tickets for both Erin Brockovich and the Opening Night are ON SALE NOW at https://www.trybooking.com/mwrv,” concluded Greg.
