English literature teacher
Robert Phiddian is a professor of English at Flinders University. He joined the Adelaide Festival of Ideas as a ‘youth representative’ on the first Advisory Board in 1998. As the youthfulness ebbed away, he took on other roles, most notably as Chair for the 2009, 2011, and 2013 festivals. He publishes on political satire, from Jonathan Swift to current Australian political cartoons, and teaches courses in Shakespeare, comedy, and older literature. His other public roles include being director of the Australasian Consortium of Humanities Research Centres and a member of the board of the Australian Book Review.
