2013 | The real value of….

Today there is clearly an appetite for deep and civil discussion of ideas and issues; an appetite that is not being slaked by media and political debates that run hysterically on the rocket fuel of polling and instant communication. In our eighth Festival of Ideas  we are asking our speakers not to respond to the loudest current concerns but to think about what matters more abidingly in their fields, and to discuss ‘the real value of…’

Paul Davies

Professor Paul Davies is the Renaissance Physicist - working in areas as diverse as fundamental physics, astrophysics, astro biology and the search of extra-terrestrial intelligence. His ability to communicate to the public is extra-ordinary, being able to deftly convey complex concepts such as the arrow of time and quantum physics.

Davies is a scientist willing to take risks with his writings about faith and science generating as much controversy as his research on non-carbon based life forms. Science Is about pushing the boundaries. and Davies efforts at breaking new ground and bringing the world with him are an inspiration to us all.

When we started the Adelaide Festival of Ideas 14 years ago there was nothing like it In Australia. Now there are many imitators.
