That we don’t have enough room, though Bob Katter’s electorate is as big as Great Britain, Tony Crook’s as big as Scandinavia. Tasmania as big as Ireland and Australia itself two-thirds as big as China, governs much of what we do in foreign policy, economic planning, regional funding and city design. The result could be population swamps like Manila and Mexico City with drugs and prostitution the principal career paths of disadvantaged teenagers. We have to urgently re-imagine our country, with a population like Germany of seventy million, and consider where it can be put and what it might do for living.
