Australia and the post-secular society

Date: 3:30 pm | Sunday 9 October 2011

Venue: Adelaide Town Hall

Is God back? If so, whose God? Is the rising tide of secularism, confidently proclaimed in the dying decades of the last millennium, retreating in the face of resurgent religion? Has secular humanism had its day? Or is this just wishful thinking on the part of a few religious optimists unable to accept the inevitable decline of religion? Five thinkers and commentators from diverse backgrounds discuss the place of religion and secularism in Australia society today. This wide-ranging conversation will explore these questions from a number of aspects including changing demography, emerging social trends and the influence of the media in shaping perceptions and understandings.
