Equinox summit: Energy 2030

Date: 1:00 pm | Sunday 9 October 2011

Venue: RiAus Auditorium

Can the world’s booming electricity demand in the 21st century be met without the use of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas? And can electricity production globally de-carbonized altogether? This seemingly insurmountable challenge was tackled by a pioneering summit of scientists, engineers, policy experts and business leaders in Canada earlier this year – and the result was transformational. One of the participants, Wilson da Silva, editor-in-chief of COSMOS science magazine, describes how the process – led by science and driven by technological pathways rather than emissions targets – offers a sustainable energy future.
